For pilgrims to the country… 13 important preventive measures to avoid dehydration, sunstroke, and food poisoning

The Emirates Health Services Corporation has identified 13 preventive and guidance measures to avoid sunstroke, dehydration and food poisoning during the Hajj season, as part of its efforts to enhance the safety of pilgrims to the Holy House of God and raise health awareness of the risks associated with high temperatures and crowding during the performance of the rituals.

The Foundation called on the pilgrims of the UAE, through an awareness guide on “Hajj Guidelines,” to adhere to health and preventive guidelines, and to see a doctor as soon as they feel any health symptoms, in a way that contributes to performing the rituals safely and preserving the health and safety of pilgrims.


Sunstroke prevention:
-Drink sufficient amounts of water and fluids and use light-colored umbrellas.
-Wear loose, light-colored clothing, and take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned places.
-Use sunscreen with at least SPF 30.
-Seek medical care immediately if you feel dizzy or heat exhausted.
-Avoid direct exposure to the sun at noon, especially during Tawaf and in Arafat and Mina.

Preventing dehydration:
-Maintaining constant fluid intake.
-Do not neglect symptoms of dehydration, such as extreme thirst, dry mouth, and heart palpitations.
– Avoid severe physical stress and prolonged exposure to heat, and get enough rest and sleep.

Preventing food poisoning:
-Wash hands before and after eating or preparing food.
-Ensure the validity of foods before eating them, wash vegetables and fruits well, and eat clean and well-cooked food.
-Avoid raw meat and uncooked seafood.
-Drink only bottled water and avoid tap water and ice cubes.
-Stay away from open foods and street vendors, avoid overeating and choose healthy meals.
