Trump sets the “red line” for resuming strikes against Iran

US President Donald Trump revealed that the future of any agreement with Iran will depend on the extent to which it achieves American interests, noting that the agreement, which does not represent a “good deal” for Washington, may push the United States to resume its military campaign against Tehran.
“The red line is any agreement that does not serve our interests,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News, scheduled to air this weekend. “I negotiate, they negotiate, and they are very good negotiators.”
He added: “The agreement that will not be in our favor is the dividing line in the end. I am studying the situation and we will see what happens.”
The US President’s statements came at a time when negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program are continuing amid continuing military tensions between the two sides, despite the ceasefire being in effect since early April.
Trump said that the Iranians are “very good negotiators,” but he considered that the decline in Iranian military capabilities gives Washington greater influence in the negotiations, especially regarding the nuclear program.
He added: “They are cunning, but in the end we are the ones who have control because we defeated them militarily.”
He continued, saying that the Iranian Navy was “completely destroyed,” adding that all Iranian ships were out of service. He also considered that the Iranian Air Force was completely destroyed.
Trump’s statements come at a time when the US administration continues to study its options regarding the future of the relationship with Iran and the fate of the ongoing negotiations between the two parties, amid indications that the two sides are approaching a possible agreement regarding extending the truce and opening a broader negotiating path.
