Inflation in Germany fell to 2.7% in May, supported by lower energy prices

Berlin, May 29, WAM: Inflation slowed in Germany during the current month of May, supported by a decline in energy prices.

Preliminary data issued by the National Statistical Office in Germany today (Friday) showed inflation falling to 2.7 percent, compared to 2.9 percent during last April.

The decline in the total figure was driven by a decline in the pace of energy price inflation to 6.6 percent in May from 10.1 percent during April as a result of the decision to reduce taxes on fuel taken by the government to mitigate the rise in prices.

Meanwhile, core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose to 2.5 percent in May from 2.3 percent.
