The first condition in the talks with Iran is to allow the opening of the Strait of Hormuz

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that “the first condition in the talks with Iran is to allow the opening of the Strait of Hormuz,” stressing that “Iran must announce very clearly that the Strait of Hormuz is now open.”

Regarding the nuclear issue, Rubio stressed that “Iran must commit to specific negotiations regarding the disposal of highly enriched uranium,” stressing that “Iran will not obtain sanctions relief simply by reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and any relief will be conditional.”

These firm positions come at a time when the American minister revealed other dimensions of the file, as he said: “We are holding talks with Iran on many points and reaching an agreement that will lead to the opening of the straits,” hinting at possible flexibility in Tehran’s position by saying: “Iran may have agreed to negotiate aspects of its nuclear program that it had refused to talk about.”

In his assessment of Iran’s current military capabilities, Rubio explained that “Iran still has many drones, but its conventional armor has eroded significantly.”

Regarding the strategic and economic security of the United States, the US Secretary of State concluded his statements by saying: “America cannot depend on one country or one source to provide it with supply chains or rare metals.”
