Abdullah bin Zayed receives the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

During the meeting, which was held in Abu Dhabi, they discussed the repercussions of the treacherous Iranian terrorist attacks that targeted civilian sites and facilities in the UAE using missiles and drones, and the threat they represent to the security and stability of the region, as well as their repercussions on the security of international maritime navigation, energy supplies, and the global economy.

The two sides also touched on the treacherous terrorist attacks that the country was subjected to using drones coming from Iraqi territory, one of which targeted the Barakah nuclear power station in the Al Dhafra region, and hit an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the station, without recording any injuries or any impact on radiation safety levels.

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan renewed his strong condemnation of this treacherous terrorist attack, which is a serious violation of international law, stressing the necessity of protecting civilian facilities and vital infrastructure and adhering to the rules of international law.

During the meeting, they also discussed the distinguished, decades-long cooperation relations between the UAE and the International Atomic Energy Agency, and ways to strengthen them in various fields, in a way that supports the peaceful use of nuclear energy in accordance with the highest international standards of safety, security, and non-proliferation.

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed the UAE’s keenness to continue strengthening its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, and to support its pivotal role in establishing nuclear security and safety at the regional and international levels.

For his part, Rafael Grossi praised the close cooperation between the UAE and the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the country’s commitment to the highest standards of transparency, safety and nuclear security, stressing the importance of protecting civilian nuclear facilities from any threats or hostile actions in order to preserve international security and stability.

The meeting was attended by Abdullah Ahmed Al-Alaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, and Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Hammadi, Managing Director and CEO of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company and its group of companies.
