Wealth that goes beyond the logic of money.. How is Elon Musk hundreds of billions away from the top of the world?

Elon Musk is currently ranked among the world’s richest people, but he may become the first person whose wealth exceeds a trillion dollars when his company SpaceX shares are listed on the stock exchange in one of the largest initial public offerings in history.

Forbes magazine on Tuesday estimated Musk’s net worth at about $835 billion, compared to $342 billion in its annual list of the rich in March 2025.
Musk is far ahead of Larry Page, co-founder of Google, who ranks second with a fortune of $298 billion.

Forbes magazine said in early April when the company filed for its listing on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, that SpaceX’s stock offering, expected around June 12, “will almost guarantee that its net worth will rise to more than a trillion dollars.”

The market value of the company, which was founded in 2002, is likely to rise to between $1.7 trillion and $2 trillion, compared to previous estimates that peaked at $1.5 trillion in March.

On Tuesday, unlisted stock trading platforms estimated the value of the group at about $1.5 trillion, with the price of one share reaching about $129 on the Forge Global platform, compared to $53 in mid-December, and $118 on the NasdaqPrivate Market.

Musk (54 years old) currently owns 12% of the common shares in SpaceX, in addition to about 94% of the Class B shares, each of which is granted ten votes, according to a document filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

A calculation conducted by Agence France-Presse shows that after the company goes public, Musk will own about 42% of SpaceX’s capital and 79% of voting rights, equivalent to $735 to $840 billion, according to the latest estimates.

In February, SpaceX acquired Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI, which in turn had acquired the social media platform x (formerly Twitter) a year earlier.

Musk also owns about 12% of electric car manufacturer Tesla, which currently has a market value of about $1.58 trillion.

In mid-February, Musk said that his net worth was almost entirely invested in Tesla and SpaceX shares, and that less than 0.1% of his wealth was cash.
Analysts expect SpaceX and Tesla to merge in 2027.

The two companies are currently developing joint projects, such as a huge TerraFab semiconductor manufacturing plant. Musk also owns shares in The Boring Company, which specializes in tunneling services, and Neuralink, which works on developing implantable brain-computer interfaces.
