Korean cosmetics exports exceed $5.6 billion in five months

SEOUL, June 7 (WAM) – Government data issued today showed a significant increase in South Korea’s exports of cosmetics during the first five months of this year, compared to the same period last year, making cosmetics the country’s most exported consumer commodity.
Korean beauty product exports totaled US$5.6 billion during the January-May period, up from US$4.6 billion recorded in the same period last year, according to data from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources.
The ministry noted that demand for South Korean cosmetics continues to grow in Europe and the United States, despite a decline in exports to China, which is traditionally one of the country’s largest foreign markets.
It is worth noting that cosmetics have become the first export commodity among the country’s five main consumer goods categories, which are agricultural and fishery products, cosmetics, fashion, household goods, and medicines.
Over the past three years, agricultural and fishery products ranked first among the five export categories in the consumer goods sectors.
South Korea’s cosmetics exports exceeded the $10 billion mark for the first time in 2024, before reaching an all-time high of $11.4 billion in 2025.
