"Agricultural phenomenon" It reviews its food security strategy during "Impact 2026"
ABU DHABI, June 9, 2017 (WAM) – Al Dhahirah Agricultural Company, one of the Emirati companies specialized in the agricultural sector and food security, during its participation in the “Impact 2026” event held in Abu Dhabi under the slogan “Impact Defined”, reviewed its successful experience in enhancing the flexibility of supply chains and ensuring the continuity of the flow of basic food commodities to the UAE.
The company highlighted its strategic role in supporting the national food security system, reviewing the size of its global operations, which include owning and operating more than 100,000 hectares of agricultural land in Europe, America, and Africa, in addition to the efforts it has made over the past months to confront the challenges affecting global supply chains and ensure the sustainability of supplies of wheat, barley, grains, and animal feed to the country.
Wissam Abbas, Regional Executive Director at Al Dahra Agricultural Company, told the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the company has succeeded in overcoming the repercussions of the disruptions witnessed in global supply chains during the recent period, by realigning supply routes and enhancing the efficiency of logistical operations, ensuring the continuity of the flow of basic food commodities to local markets without interruption.
He added that the company, which was founded in the UAE about 30 years ago, implemented during the past months a package of operational and logistical solutions that contributed to maintaining the stability of food supplies despite the accelerating global challenges, benefiting from its international operations network extending across three continents.
He explained that more than 18,000 farmers benefit from integrated food security programs and initiatives in Abu Dhabi, while a large percentage of grain imports into the country pass through the company’s facilities and strategic silos in the port of Fujairah, which reflects the pivotal role that the company plays within the food security system and national supply chains.
Abbas stressed that the operational experience that the company has accumulated through its dealings with global crises, starting with the “Covid-19” pandemic and ending with the current challenges, has strengthened its ability to respond to changes and establish a more flexible and sustainable supply system, which supports the UAE’s readiness to continue securing its food needs and enhancing its food security in the long term.
