Iran secretly apologized after spreading misleading information about the agreement

US President Donald Trump said that the recent statements of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi regarding the upcoming agreement between the two countries are “very positive,” anticipating the possibility of signing the agreement during the weekend or next Monday.

Trump added, in a call with the American news site Axios, that he demanded a public clarification from Tehran after reports published by official Iranian media that claimed that the country would receive billions of dollars in frozen assets immediately after signing the agreement, which the US President strongly criticized earlier.

Trump added that the Iranian side “secretly apologized for spreading misleading information,” without the mechanism or channels for conveying this message to Washington becoming clear.

On the other hand, Axios quoted two informed sources as saying that the draft agreement was approved by high levels in Tehran on Thursday, adding that it was “likely” that it had not yet received the approval of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

Earlier Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that the United States and Iran are “closer than ever” to reaching an agreement to end the war.

“The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding is closer than ever before,” Araqchi wrote on the “X” platform.

He added after Iranian media published supposed details about the draft understanding: “Pending the completion of the agreement, the media should refrain from speculating about its content.”
