Ebola deaths in Congo exceed 200, and there are warnings of a worsening health crisis

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the death toll from the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has exceeded 200.

The representative of the centers, Sam Mankula, said that the total number of deaths reached 204, after counting the deaths recorded in Uganda, while the number of confirmed infections rose to 894 cases, including 875 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, compared to the recovery of 74 people.

He added that the number of infections recorded during the first month of the outbreak is the highest compared to any previous outbreak of the virus, noting that the current toll is three times more than the second largest outbreak during the same time period.

He expressed his concern about the decline in the number of contacts being followed, as their number does not exceed 4,112 people, compared to about 35,000 who are believed to have been in contact with the infected, stressing that the health authorities are still far from controlling the situation.
