Our interests do not always coincide with Israel and the accusation of “anti-Semitism” is politically exploited

Ordinary partnership and mismatched interests

Vance stressed the need to go beyond the traditional view that promotes a complete coincidence of visions between Washington and Tel Aviv, declaring: “There are those who say that America’s interests always coincide with Israel’s interests… and this is simply not true.” In the context of his description of the relationship, he placed Israel in the rank of traditional allies, noting that it is “a good partner for America in the same way that Britain or France are good partners.”

Disagreements with Netanyahu over the war with Iran

Regarding regional developments and thorny issues, the US Vice President acknowledged the existence of clear discrepancies with the Israeli leadership, revealing that President Donald Trump “was very frank about the existence of differences with Netanyahu about how to end the war with Iran.”

Refusing to politicize “anti-Semitism”

Vance also sent a decisive message, rejecting the deliberate conflation of political criticism of Israeli government policies with anti-Semitism. In this context, he stressed that “it is not true that every criticism of Netanyahu’s political decisions leads to anti-Semitism or is considered anti-Semitism.” He concluded his statements by warning against using these accusations as a pressure tool, saying: “We must be very careful about trying to accuse someone of anti-Semitism in order to serve a specific foreign policy goal.”
