19% decrease in traffic accident deaths in Dubai during 2025

Dubai Police revealed that the index of deaths resulting from traffic accidents in the emirate decreased by 19% during the year 2025 compared to 2024, stressing the continuation of its efforts to enhance traffic safety and reduce the causes of accidents by launching the “Drive Consciously” campaign, which aims to reach more than four million people.
During a press conference held yesterday to launch the campaign, she reviewed an accident committed by a delivery bike driver who ran a red light in response to pressure from a customer to deliver the order quickly. He ended up colliding with a pole on the side of the road and sustaining serious injuries, in an incident that embodied the dangers that may result from rushing and not adhering to traffic rules.
In detail, the Dubai Police General Command, represented by the General Traffic Department and the General Department of Community Happiness, launched the “Drive Consciously” campaign in strategic partnership with Nissan Middle East and Abdul Wahed Al Rostamani Motors, with the aim of enhancing the culture of traffic commitment and reducing the rates of accidents, injuries and deaths on the roads.
Deputy Director of the General Traffic Department, Brigadier General Essam Al Awar, confirmed that the campaign comes within the efforts of Dubai Police aimed at protecting lives and property, and establishing a culture of responsible driving among all road users.
Al-Awar said that the campaign focuses on the most prominent causes of traffic accidents, most notably not leaving a safe distance, sudden deviation, excessive speed, using a mobile phone while driving, and being distracted by various distractions, in addition to not adhering to the lane and standing in the middle of the road in a way that hinders traffic movement and exposes others to danger.
He added that Dubai Police views traffic awareness as a fundamental pillar of the traffic safety system, in addition to oversight, legislation, infrastructure development and smart services, stressing continued work with strategic partners to launch specific initiatives that support the emirate’s goals of reaching safer and more sustainable roads.
He pointed out that delivery bike drivers face multiple challenges while performing their work, including time pressure, large number of requests, and preoccupation with delivery and navigation applications, as well as difficult weather conditions, which requires advance planning of trips and strict adherence to traffic safety procedures.
For his part, Director of the Traffic Education Department, Colonel Talal Abdulaziz Al Mansouri, said that Dubai Police succeeded in reducing the death index by 19%, thanks to an integrated system that includes developing traffic operations and employing smart technologies in monitoring, analysis and response, in addition to intensifying awareness campaigns and field oversight.
He explained that statistics recorded 1,928 accidents due to sudden deviation during the past two years, and 1,529 accidents due to not leaving enough distance, while the number of accidents resulting from excessive speed reached 46 accidents.
He added that the “Drive Consciously” campaign aims to reach the largest possible segment of society through the media and social media platforms, through awareness messages and innovative educational clips that contribute to modifying wrong traffic behaviors and enhancing the concept of shared responsibility towards road security.
As part of the campaign, First Lieutenant Salma Al Marri announced the launch of an interactive traffic competition through Dubai Police’s social media platforms, with the aim of raising awareness of traffic laws in an interactive manner that encourages the public to learn and participate.
She explained that the participants will enter a draw for two Nissan Kicks cars presented by Nissan Middle East and Abdul Wahed Al Rostamani Motors, with the draw taking place on the third of next July, stressing that the competition is not limited to competition only, but rather provides educational and corrective content that enhances the traffic culture of the participants.
