Iraq.. Confiscation of more than 85 million dollars in the “corruption case” of Adnan Al-Jumaili

The Iraqi judiciary announced on Tuesday the confiscation of more than $85 million, a large portion of which was found hidden inside homes and in holes in the ground, as part of a corruption case linked to Adnan Al-Jumaili.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Liquidation Affairs, Adnan Al-Jumaili, was arrested last month in Salah al-Din Governorate in northern Iraq.

The Supreme Judicial Council stated in a statement that investigations into “the waste occurring in the projects implemented by the accused” and others resulted “today (Tuesday) in the seizure of cash amounts amounting to more than 67 billion dinars and one million dollars.”

Part of this money was “hidden in the homes of a number of people,” while “the other part was hidden underground at a depth of four meters. It was found after digging the ground with specialized machinery.”

Thus, “the amount of money seized in the case exceeds 98 billion dinars and 11 million dollars,” meaning a total of more than 85 million dollars.

Based on “confessions made by Al-Jumaili during his interrogation,” the director of the Health Department in Salah al-Din Governorate, Raed al-Jubouri, was arrested, according to the statement.

The legal procedures in this case also included “the seizure and seizure of 70 real estate and 21 modern wheels, in addition to gold jewelry estimated at about 3 kilograms,” according to another statement by the Supreme Judicial Council.
