Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, warned of the danger of not leaving the legal safety distance between vehicles, given that this violation could cause serious or fatal accidents. He stressed that statistics show that vehicle collisions resulting from not leaving a safety distance are among the most common types of accidents, noting that the Federal Traffic Law stipulates that the violation of not leaving the safety distance carries a fine of 400 dirhams, in addition to 4 traffic points. . This came after a person was injured in a collision between two trucks after the Global Village towards Sharjah, as a result of not leaving a sufficient safety distance, which is considered one of the most prominent reasons leading to serious traffic accidents.
Brigadier General Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan explained that the command and control room received a report about the accident, and preliminary investigations showed that the accident occurred due to failure to leave a sufficient safety distance behind the vehicles, which led to the collision. The accident resulted in one person being injured, who was taken to hospital for treatment.
He pointed out that traffic accident experts immediately moved to the site and began inspection procedures and collected technical evidence to determine the exact causes of the accident. While traffic patrols secured the accident site and organized traffic, to ensure the speedy arrival of ambulances and specialized teams, field teams also worked to remove the damaged vehicles in the shortest possible time to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and avoid congestion.
The Director of the General Traffic Department called on drivers to be careful and attentive while driving, stressing that adherence to traffic regulations does not protect the driver alone, but rather contributes to protecting all road users and achieving a safer and more sustainable traffic environment in the emirate.
He stressed that adhering to the safety distance is an essential element of defensive driving, which will preserve lives and property, and reduce losses resulting from accidents. He stated that Dubai Police is implementing continuous awareness programs targeting various segments of society, through field and electronic campaigns, to shed light on the most important violations affecting traffic safety, such as excessive speed, distracted traffic, and not leaving enough distance between vehicles.
