1.9 billion riyals consumer spending on food and beverages in a week
Spending on food and beverages topped the list of transactions via Points of sale in Saudi Arabia during the week ending June 20, 2026, bringing the total transactions in this sector to 1.94 billion riyals.
Consumers maintained their spending at points of sale above the level of 12 billion riyals, during the week ending June 20, 2026, which confirms the strength of consumer activity in Saudi Arabia despite the general slowdown witnessed by most sectors.
And according to the latest data of the Central Bank of Saudi Arabia (SAMA), the total number of point-of-sale transactions reached 12.4 billion riyals, a decrease of 6.5% from the previous week, and the total number of transactions decreased by 4.8% to reach 226.7 million transactions, compared to 238.2 million transactions in the previous week.
Decrease in transactions in the jewelry sector
Most sectors recorded a decline during the week ending June 20, as the JewelryThe largest decline in transaction value, by 22.7% to reach 493.8 million SAR.
The utilities and public services sector also decreased by 11.2% to reach 47.9 million riyals, while laundry services declined by 11.1% to reach 45.5 million riyals, and the trade of vehicles and spare parts decreased by 11.1% to reach 493.1 million riyals.
Rise in Hotels
On the other hand, the hotel sector was the strongest in terms of growth, as spending increased by 4.9%, reaching 197.4 million riyals, and spending on education increased by 4.7%, reaching 220.8 million riyals, while goods transportation and courier services achieved a slight growth of 2.4%, reaching 44.5 million riyals.

Food and beverages remained the largest spending category at points of sale, although it decreased by 8%, reaching 1.94 billion riyals. Restaurants and cafes came in second place, as spending decreased by 5.1% to reach 1.55 billion riyals.
Professional and business services were among the few major categories that recorded growth, rising by 0.7% to reach 765.7 million riyals, ranking third in terms of transaction value.
