Iraq.. Arrest of a number of defendants in the corruption files of the Ministry of Oil

An Iraqi security source reported on Sunday the arrest of a number of those accused in corruption cases based on confessions made by the Undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, Adnan Al-Jumaili.
The official Iraqi News Agency quoted the source as saying, “The arrests included members of Parliament whose immunity was lifted, and officials whose names were mentioned in those confessions.”
He stated that Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi “will not hesitate to pursue the corrupt and those involved in encroaching on state funds.”
Iraqi media reported that Iraqi special forces closed the government Green Zone and launched arrest campaigns that targeted political and military figures.
Video clips spread on social media sites of Iraqi tanks and military vehicles roaming the streets of the Green Zone, and a heavy deployment of Counter-Terrorism Service forces and the Special Squad to protect the Green Zone, amid a complete closure and preventing entry to it.
