Dubai Customs launches an advanced fleet of unit vehicles "K9"

DUBAI, June 28 / WAM / Dubai Customs inaugurated its new fleet of “K9” customs dog unit vehicles, coinciding with the International Day to Combat Drug Abuse and the national campaign to eradicate this scourge, with the aim of enhancing the readiness of the customs inspection system and the speed of field response, to protect society and the national economy from smuggling attempts through border crossings.
The two new vehicles were designed according to the highest international specifications to provide a safe and effective operating environment, as they were equipped with an integrated technical system that includes smart cameras, systems to monitor the driver’s attention, and instantaneous thermal sensors to send emergency alerts, in addition to advanced internal equipment to ensure the safety and well-being of living vehicles, such as independent air conditioning systems, electronic water dispensers, and non-slip floors. They were also directly linked electronically to the main operating room to facilitate follow-up, and provided with emergency panels to ensure quick access to locations. Inspection.
The K9 unit has outstanding capabilities and achievements, as it owns 28 customs dogs, 20 of which are dedicated to detecting drugs and 8 for explosives, supervised by 24 male and female mentors of national competencies. The unit has carried out more than 1,000 field transports to support inspection operations during the past three years, from 2023 to 2025. The unit operates through an integrated headquarters that includes 54 hangars, quarantine and training facilities, a veterinary examination room, in addition to 6 specialized transport vehicles.
Yasser Saeed Al Musalmi, Chief Consultant for Customs Affairs at Dubai Customs, confirmed that the launch of the fleet reflects the department’s keenness to invest in smart technologies, and represents a qualitative addition to the inspection and port security system to protect society and the national economy.
Fouad Al Suwaidi, Director of the Technical Support Department at Dubai Customs, explained that the development of the unit includes an integrated system of training, qualification and health care, noting that the department provides specialized facilities that simulate land, sea and air inspection scenarios, in keeping with the best international practices in operation and readiness.
