Washington gives temporary protection migrants a choice between permanent residency and departure

US Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullen said on Sunday that immigrants in the United States under temporary protected status must seek to regularize their status and obtain permanent residency, or leave the country and return to their homelands.
Mullen added, in statements to CNN: “Either you try to complete the procedures to remain in the country with permanent residency status, or we will help you return to your homelands.”
