A driver was sentenced to six months in prison and fined 70,000 dirhams for parading his vehicle on a public road

The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court issued a ruling convicting an accused who intentionally committed an act that would endanger people’s lives, after driving a vehicle on a public road recklessly and swerving several times suddenly, risking his life and the lives of others.

The court ruled to punish the convict with imprisonment for a period of 6 months, and to fine him 50,000 dirhams for the charge charged against him, in addition to fining him 20,000 dirhams, representing the estimated value of the vehicle used in the crime, as it was proven to be owned by another person, bringing the total amounts adjudicated to 70,000 dirhams, with his driver’s license suspended for a year after carrying out the penalty.

The Public Prosecution in Abu Dhabi had referred the accused to the competent court immediately after the relevant police authorities completed the arrest and investigation procedures, as a result of monitoring his reckless behavior on the public road and his deliberate repeated swerving of the vehicle, which posed a direct threat to the safety of road users.

The court based its ruling on conviction on the evidence and evidence contained in the case papers, which included arrest reports and police inferences, in addition to reports and technical materials derived from surveillance camera recordings, which documented the accused’s commission of the incident.

With the issuance of this ruling, the Public Prosecution called on drivers to adhere to traffic rules and regulations, and to be responsible in order to preserve the security of the roads and protect their users, stressing that driving recklessly or engaging in reckless traffic practices is considered dangerous behavior that exposes its perpetrators to legal accountability and severe penalties, in accordance with the legislation in force in the country.
