Emirates Airlines is the first carrier to operate the Boeing 777, converted from passengers to cargo

Emirates Airlines has achieved a new achievement in its plans to expand the cargo fleet, after it became the first air cargo carrier to operate a Boeing 777-300ERSF aircraft converted from a passenger aircraft to a cargo aircraft. The A6-EBK aircraft began its commercial operations with a flight from Dubai to Hong Kong, during which it transported 100 tons of cargo.

The new aircraft provides a cargo capacity of up to 100 tons, and a total cargo volume of 811 cubic metres, an increase of 25% in cargo volume compared to the originally produced Boeing 777F cargo aircraft.

Badr Abbas, Emirates Senior Vice President for Cargo, said: “The entry of the first Boeing 777-300ERSF converted into a freighter into the Emirates fleet represents a new stage in our efforts to enhance the efficiency of our operational assets and increase the flexibility of our operations. We are working to make optimal use of our fleet assets by converting older Boeing 777-300ER aircraft from passengers to freighters, in line with the growing demand for air cargo capacity to transport goods quickly and efficiently to various parts of the world.”

In addition, Emirates Airlines revealed its new concept for its distinctive next-generation lounges, which is being implemented this year in a number of major cities around the world, in a new step that reflects the carrier’s continued investment to develop and improve the customer experience at various stages of their journey.

The new design appeared for the first time in the Emirates Airlines lounges in Munich and Frankfurt, followed by the introduction of the same concept in the carrier’s lounges in Manchester, Mauritius and Istanbul in the coming months.

Adel Al Redha, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Emirates Airlines, said: “Our investment in the concept of our distinctive next-generation lounges reflects Emirates’ continued commitment to providing a seamless and upscale travel experience at every stage of the journey. These lounges were designed to combine luxury, hospitality and innovation that distinguish Emirates Airlines, and provide our customers with a comfortable space to relax, dine and prepare for their flights. As this concept expands across our global network, it will set a new standard for airport lounges and enhance Emirates’ position in providing a distinguished travel experience.”
