To overcome political obstacles, OpenAI is considering granting the US government 5% of the company

OpenAI is considering granting the US government a 5% stake in the company, in an attempt to overcome potential political obstacles from the administration of US President Donald Trump, according to the Financial Times.
The company’s CEO, Sam Altman, believes that granting the US government a financial stake in the company is the best way to share the returns from artificial intelligence. He presented this proposal during preliminary talks with the US administration, according to what the newspaper quoted two people familiar with the talks as saying.
The proposed arrangement includes other American companies specializing in artificial intelligence granting similar shares, although it is not yet clear whether these other companies will agree to this.
Giving the government an ownership stake in the company may strengthen relations with the Trump administration and represents an attempt to address negative political repercussions by sharing the wealth generated by artificial intelligence with the public.
Artificial intelligence laboratories face an increasingly challenging environment in Washington, with American public opinion and politicians growing concerned about the construction of large data centers and the effects of artificial intelligence on jobs and cybersecurity.
