Egypt reaches the final of the 2026 World Cup after beating Australia

DALLAS, 4 July / WAM / The Egyptian national team qualified for the first time in its history to the quarter-finals (round of 16) of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, currently being held in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico, after defeating the Australian national team 4-2 on penalty kicks, after the original and extra time ended in a 1-1 draw, in the match that was held today at Dallas Stadium in the round of 32 competitions.
The Egyptian national team took the lead with a goal scored by Emam Ashour in the 13th minute, before the Australian team equalized in the 55th minute with an own goal by defender Mohamed Hani, while extra time did not witness any change in the result, so the two teams decided to go to penalty kicks, which smiled at the Egyptian team.
The Egyptian national team set a date in the next round with the winner of the match between Argentina and Cape Verde, scheduled for later today.
