"Sharjah Innovation Complex" Launches an initiative to attract Chinese investors at the Shanghai Organization Forum

QINGDAO, 3rd July, 2017 (WAM) – The Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park participated in the first China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum for Scientific, Technological Cooperation and Innovation, hosted by the city of Qingdao in the People’s Republic of China, where it announced during the event the launch of a strategic initiative targeting Chinese companies, entrepreneurs and investors, allowing them to establish their companies in the park’s free zone and complete all establishment procedures and issuance of licenses remotely through an integrated digital program, which facilitates the launch of their business towards the markets of the UAE and the region, while providing the possibility of expansion later. His Excellency Hussein Al Mahmoudi, Executive Director of the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, stressed that this participation is an extension of the close strategic relations between the UAE and the People’s Republic of China, and reflects the park’s continued keenness to enhance international cooperation in the fields of scientific research, technology and innovation.
He said that the complex continues to work on building strategic partnerships with innovation ecosystems in Asia, with the aim of attracting companies, talents and quality investments to the Emirate of Sharjah, thus contributing to strengthening its position as a leading regional center for innovation and the knowledge economy.
The association’s delegation recorded a prominent global presence through its selection to participate in the international judging committee for the fifth session of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Youth Competition for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which was held on the sidelines of the forum, which His Excellency Hussein Al Mahmoudi considered a clear embodiment of the growing confidence enjoyed by the association on the global scene.
The committee undertook the tasks of evaluating twenty final projects submitted by member states, based on precise criteria that included the level of innovation, technical excellence, commercial feasibility, and economic and social impact.
The delegation presented to the participants in the forum the comprehensive innovation system adopted by the complex, highlighting the model of integrated cooperation between universities, the government and private sectors, and investors, which aims to accelerate technology transfer mechanisms and transform scientific research outputs into tangible economic projects. The delegation also provided a comprehensive explanation of the advanced infrastructure that the complex provides, advanced research laboratories, innovation centers, and specialized programs to support emerging companies.
The forum, which witnessed broad participation from government officials and representatives of the General Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, in addition to universities, research centers, technology companies, investors and entrepreneurs from member states and partner countries, constituted an ideal platform to enhance cooperation in the fields of scientific research, expand effective partnerships, and encourage investment in future industries.
On the sidelines of the forum’s activities, the complex’s delegation held a series of bilateral meetings with a number of Chinese universities, research institutions and technology companies, to discuss ways of joint cooperation in vital fields including artificial intelligence, advanced technology, the digital economy, sustainability, advanced manufacturing, and technology transfer, as well as exploring opportunities to launch joint future initiatives and projects.
