Trump on the anniversary of independence from Britain: America is a nation of firm faith

In a speech he delivered late yesterday (Friday), on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States, US President Donald Trump warned his countrymen against communist ideology, as he painted a picture of the United States as a nation of firm faith.

Trump said, in front of supporters in the US state of South Dakota against the backdrop of the famous Mount Rushmore, on the eve of Independence Day: “You can be a communist or you can be a patriot.”

Trump also described the United States as “a country that looks to God.” “The rights we enjoy were given to us by the God who created us, and those rights will not be violated.” Trump, 80, added: “No other country has done more good for the world than the United States.”

He stressed that English is spoken in the United States because it is the language of the Founding Fathers, without mentioning that a very large number of people in the country also speak Spanish.

It is noteworthy that Mount Rushmore is world-famous for its representation of presidential figures, as the heads of George Washington, the country’s first president, Thomas Jefferson, the third president, Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president, and Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president, were carved on it.

This is not the first time that Trump has used Mount Rushmore as a backdrop for his speech. Six years ago, also on Independence Day, he gave a speech there against participants in the nationwide protest movement against racism.

Yesterday (Saturday) is the climax of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States from Britain.

In addition to the President’s speech, the evening program includes a fireworks display that is scheduled to break records by launching 850,000 fireworks in ten locations over the course of about 40 minutes.
