A shocking toll: 438 people were killed on the roads of Bangladesh during June

The latest report by the Bangladesh Road Safety Foundation said that a total of 472 road accidents killed 438 people and injured 561 others across the country in June 2026, with motorcycle accidents accounting for about a third of all deaths.
The report stated that 44 women and 56 children were among those killed. The report was prepared using data collected from national newspapers, electronic news sites and electronic media, in addition to special monitoring of the institution itself, according to the Daily Sun newspaper published in Bangladesh on Sunday.
Motorcycle accidents continue to cause the most deaths, with 145 accidents killing 134 people, representing 59.30% of all road deaths. Pedestrians were also among the most affected, as the number of pedestrian deaths reached 91 deaths, representing 77.20% of the total deaths. 57 drivers and transport assistants were killed.
In addition to road accidents, the country recorded nine accidents on waterways, resulting in the death of seven people and the injury of four others, while 21 railway accidents resulted in the death of 18 people and the injury of seven others.
