A slight increase in industrial producer prices in the euro area and the European Union

Brussels, 6 July / WAM / Industrial producer prices rose by 0.2% in both the Eurozone and the European Union during May 2026 compared to April, according to preliminary estimates issued by the European Statistical Office, Eurostat, after stronger increases in the previous month.

On an annual basis, prices rose by 5.9% in the euro area and 5.7% in the EU compared to May 2025, mainly driven by higher energy prices.

Sectorally, intermediate goods prices rose by 1.4%, while energy prices fell by 1% on a monthly basis, against limited increases in capital goods (0.2%) and consumer durables (0.3%). Excluding energy, overall industry prices rose by 0.7%.

At the member state level, Cyprus (+3.6%), Ireland (+2.8%), and the Netherlands (+1.9%) recorded the largest monthly increases, while the most significant declines came in Croatia, Hungary and Italy.

Annually, energy prices jumped by “14%” in the Eurozone and “14.3%” in the European Union, while Bulgaria (+19.3%), Romania (+13.5%) and Lithuania (+12.3%) recorded the highest rates of rise, while Luxembourg was the only country that witnessed an annual decline (-3.2%).

These data reflect continued inflationary pressures in the European industrial sector, despite the relative slowdown in the pace of the monthly rise.
