Macron wrote a letter in the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus.. What did he write in it?

The day before yesterday, French President Emmanuel Macron, accompanied by Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, visited the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, at the beginning of the first visit by a French president to Syria since 2009.

Macron wrote a message in the visitors’ book in which he praised the history of Damascus and its cultural diversity, and it read: “I am happy to be here on this day in this place, which represents Damascus and long centuries of history, religions and civilizations… In this mosque, Roman temples and Christian churches intertwine to tell the unity of the Syrian people and the strength of their history.”

He continued in the message circulated on social media: “In these days of uncertainty that the region is going through, Syria is emerging again thanks to its people and with their help, through its unity and its aspiration to the future. France is here, by its side.”

The French President concluded by signing in his full name and capacity.

While President Al-Sharaa wrote in his message: “Praise be to God who honored us and cherished Syria and its people with the extension of its history, civilization, and nobility. We will remain servants to it and its people until its history extends to tell a great chapter of its chapters. Today, Damascus has become a shrine and landmark for its lovers.”

Macron arrived in Damascus on the first visit by a European Union head of state since the fall of the Assad regime in 2024, where he was received by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani.
