Al Zahra Hospital Dubai highlights an internationally published surgical innovation by a hospital doctor that contributes to saving mothers and preserving fertility.

Al Zahra Hospital Dubai highlighted the scientific achievement of Dr. Sharda Prata Ghosh, Obstetrics and Gynecology Consultant, after publishing his surgical innovation “Ghosh Suture”, also known as the Alternate Sequential Surgical Suture Tensioning Technique (ASSTT), in peer-reviewed international medical journals, as one of the innovations that contributes to improving the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage, one of the most serious complications that mothers may face during childbirth.
Dr. Ghosh also demonstrated this technique during the Annual Conference of the Indian College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AICOG 2026), in addition to the International Congress of Gynecology and Women’s Health – Dubai 2025.
Postpartum hemorrhage is one of the most prominent causes of maternal death and birth complications globally, as it requires urgent intervention to control the bleeding, while some cases may require resorting to a hysterectomy to save the patient’s life, which leads to her losing the ability to have children.
The development of the Gosh stitch was aimed at providing a quick and effective surgical technique that helps control bleeding while preserving the uterus whenever the medical condition allows, thus giving women the opportunity to preserve their future fertility.
The technique is distinguished in that it does not require additional incisions in the uterus or complex surgical steps, and relies on sequential and balanced tension of surgical sutures to achieve effective pressure on the uterus in only about four minutes, which gives doctors a practical tool in cases where the speed of intervention is a decisive factor.
According to the published clinical study, the technique was applied in more than 100 cases of uterine prolapse, in addition to a number of cases of placenta accreta, and showed promising results in controlling bleeding and reducing the need for hysterectomy in appropriate cases.
Dr. Sharda Prata Ghosh, Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology at Al Zahra Hospital Dubai, said: “In cases of postpartum hemorrhage, every minute is crucial. Our goal is to quickly control the bleeding while preserving the uterus whenever it is safe for the patient to do so. The Ghosh stitch came to provide a simple, fast and applicable technique that contributes to saving the lives of mothers and preserving the chances of childbearing in the future.”
For his part, Dr. Amr Ali, Medical Director of Al Zahra Hospital Dubai, said: “We are proud that Al Zahra Hospital Dubai includes doctors who contribute to developing medical practices at the international level, in addition to providing advanced health care to patients. This innovation embodies our continued commitment to supporting scientific research and adopting the latest medical solutions that reflect positively on the quality of care and patient safety.”
The hospital confirmed that this achievement reflects its interest in supporting innovation and scientific research, and providing the latest medical technologies in various specialties, which contributes to enhancing the quality of health care provided to women in the UAE, and consolidating Dubai’s position as a regional center for medical excellence.
