Gaza – The UN Coordinator leads a virtual diplomatic visit to a displacement site in Khan Yunis

At the daily press conference, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that representatives of 12 diplomatic missions participated in the visit remotely via video link, where they were briefed on living conditions and relief efforts at the site, and interacted with displaced children and adults as well as with relief workers.

Dujarric recalled that diplomatic missions have faced difficulties in entering the Gaza Strip since October 2023.

Dujarric said that the diplomats participating in the virtual visit watched at a distribution point inside the site how community members – including children – obtain water transported by trucks. This project is managed by a local partner with funding from the Humanitarian Fund for the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The displaced people expressed to diplomats their need for sustainable water services, especially during the hot summer days, and for financial work opportunities to support their families.

Dujarric stated that the virtual visit included a tour among hundreds of crowded tents along the seashore.

Alakbarov – who also serves as the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Palestine – thanked the participants for their financial support for relief efforts, noting the need for more support to sustain and expand operations, including funding and political action to overcome ongoing obstacles.

Earlier today, Thursday, Alakbarov met in Deir al-Balah with heads of humanitarian agencies to discuss relief efforts and existing challenges. This afternoon, he also visited the Emirati Hospital in Rafah.
