A new round of US-Iranian negotiations in Switzerland next week

An informed source revealed to Axios that a new round of negotiations between the United States and Iran is expected to be held next week, likely to be hosted by the Swiss capital.

This revelation comes at a time when diplomatic efforts are intensifying to prevent the comprehensive collapse of the US-Iranian agreement, as another informed diplomat confirmed to the site that “it is clear that both sides want to return to the memorandum of understanding.”

As part of efforts to reduce the escalation witnessed in the past forty-eight hours, Qatari negotiators went to Iran on Friday in a visit that took place in coordination with the United States. This step, according to diplomatic sources, aims to meet with Iranian officials to create appropriate conditions and pave the way for the resumption of negotiations.

The truce is “over”

These leaks coincide with US President Donald Trump’s confirmation on Friday that his administration had agreed to continue the talks, but would no longer adhere to the ceasefire.

Although Trump announced on Wednesday that the truce had “ended” and expressed little confidence in the possibility of the talks resulting in a credible agreement with Tehran, he still gave the green light to American negotiators to engage in the dialogue.

Trump clarified his position in a blog post he published on his “Truth Social” platform (TruthSocial) saying: “The Islamic Republic of Iran asked us to continue the ‘talks’. We agreed to that, but the United States made it clear to them, in no uncertain terms, that the ceasefire has ended! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
