Egypt revives the productive wells in the Baraka oil field

Egypt has begun implementing an integrated program to revive productive wells in the Baraka field in the Kom Ombo region in Aswan Governorate, through maintenance of existing wells and drilling new development and exploratory wells.

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said in a press statement today, Monday, that this comes within the framework of its strategy to increase local production rates of oil and gas, and maximize the benefit from the promising potential in southern Egypt.
According to the statement, Dr. Samir Raslan, President of the Egyptian South Valley Petroleum Holding Company, accompanied by Engineer Mahmoud Tolba, President of Kom Ombo Petroleum Company, and the leaders of the two companies, conducted a field visit to Al-Baraka field, to follow up on the launch of the program’s work after the drilling and maintenance rig arrived at the work site, and to ensure the readiness of the equipment and the implementation plan according to the specified timetables.
The program is being implemented in cooperation with the Canadian company Mediterra, the investment partner in the concession area, and aims to pump new investments to support and develop production, through implementing a program to maintain a number of production wells, in addition to drilling two new wells as a first stage, with the possibility of increasing the number of wells according to the results of the work and technical studies.
Dr. Samir Raslan stressed that the start of implementation of this program represents an important step towards reactivating production from the Baraka field, and benefiting from the promising petroleum potential in the Kom Ombo region, noting that the company pays great attention to accelerating the pace of implementation of drilling and development plans, which contributes to maximizing local production and achieving optimal use of resources, in light of the first axis of the strategy of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, which aims to increase production and secure the needs of the local market.
