The International Maritime Organization opposes imposing fees on any strait

The United Nations International Maritime Organization said on Monday that it was waiting for more details after US President Donald Trump said in a post that Washington was imposing a naval blockade on Iran again and intends to collect compensation of 20 percent for every shipment that passes through the Strait of Hormuz.
A spokesman for the organization said, “We are aware of the post and are awaiting further details.”
He added, “We have always been consistent in our position on fees. The International Maritime Organization strongly opposes imposing fees on passage through straits used for international navigation. There is no legal basis that allows for the imposition of mandatory fees simply for crossing a strait.”
Trump said in a post on the Truth Social platform that the process would begin immediately, but he did not provide further details.
