Dubai Electricity and Water promotes residential sustainability through digital services to monitor faults and leaks

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority is working to enable customers in the residential sector to promote the conscious and responsible use of electricity and water to ensure the protection of resources and property and maintain the safety and efficiency of homes. The Authority provides an integrated system of digital services that help customers early detect faults and leaks and deal with them quickly to reduce waste, in addition to a package of preventive instructions that support the sustainability of homes and the comfort of their residents.
The Authority confirmed that preventive maintenance and periodic checks of internal connections, water tanks and home appliances are among the most important practices to reduce sudden malfunctions and water leaks, as early dealing with any defect contributes to avoiding damage that may worsen over time, in addition to maintaining the efficiency of water consumption.
She explained that the appearance of traces of water leakage or pools of water on the floors, walls, ceilings, or around washing machines, may be an indication of a leak in the internal connections, and water pools outside the home may indicate a leak in the external pipes or irrigation network. Locations most vulnerable to leakage include water tanks, bathrooms, kitchens, swimming pools, water heaters, and toilet tanks, which requires periodic inspections and treatment of any defect as soon as it is discovered. The Authority also advises conducting a simple test of water taps twice a year, by closing all sources of water consumption and monitoring the water meter to verify the presence of any abnormal consumption.
The Authority stressed the importance of adhering to its regulations and technical instructions when installing water tanks and internal connections, in order to ensure the continuity of water supply and quality, with the necessity of avoiding direct connection from the main water line without connecting it to the water tank, and ensuring that the tanks are maintained and cleaned periodically to maintain water quality and reduce malfunctions and blockages.
Through its smart application and website, the Authority provides a set of digital services that help customers monitor their consumption and take proactive measures when monitoring any unusual indicators. One of the most prominent of these services is the “High Water Consumption Notification” service, which allows them to detect any leaks in water connections after the meter, as real-time notifications are sent to the customer if the smart meter system detects any unusual increase in consumption.
The Authority also provides the “Smart Response” service to diagnose the cause of the outage. If the cause is internal, the customer must contact the maintenance team in the building or one of the approved technicians to repair the fault. If it turns out that the malfunction is external and related to the Authority, the customer contacts the emergency number 991, and a technical team will be sent to repair the malfunction according to the highest levels of efficiency and speed. The “Dewa Store” available through the Authority’s smart application includes a list of approved technical service providers to facilitate access to maintenance services.
The Authority continues its efforts within its annual summer awareness campaign, under the slogan “Enjoy a Sustainable Atmosphere This Summer,” to spread awareness of the best practices that contribute to raising the efficiency of electricity and water consumption, and to encourage community members to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle, by benefiting from the smart digital services and solutions provided by the Authority.
