Larry the Cat welcomes Burnham to Downing Street and sets out his first duties

Britain’s chief mouser, Larry the Cat, welcomed Prime Minister Andy Burnham to Downing Street, assigning him his first official task of “taking care of him and feeding him at least twice a day.”
Larry the Cat’s official account on the “X” platform published pictures showing Burnham receiving instructions, with a comment that said: “Welcome to the most important position in your life.” The instructions explained: “Larry’s cat’s tray is in the cabinet room, and he must be fed at least twice a day.”
The Chair of the National Executive Committee of the Labor Party, Shabana Mahmood, had previously announced that Burnham had been elected as the new leader of the party, and it was expected that the reins of power would be handed over on Monday.
Larry the cat, who was adopted from a shelter, has been working at the British Prime Minister’s residence since 2011, and is one of a long line of cats that have lived in the residences of British rulers since the 15th century. Since 1929, these cats have had official status and receive a salary of 100 pounds sterling annually.
Humphrey the cat is considered the most famous of Larry’s ancestors in the twentieth century, as he performed rat control duties under three prime ministers: Margaret Thatcher, John Major, and Tony Blair, and he died in 2008 at the age of 18.
It should be noted that Larry himself had previously witnessed the passage of several Prime Ministers during his extended period of service, making him one of the longest-serving figures in the British government headquarters.
