Italy’s trade balance declined in May

Rome, 18 July / WAM / The Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) announced that the surplus in the Italian trade balance declined during last May to 4.793 billion euros, compared to 6.103 billion euros during the same month in 2025, indicating the high cost of energy imports.

The Italian news agency Ansamed quoted the institute as saying that the deficit in the energy trade balance rose to 5.7 billion euros, compared to 3.457 billion euros a year ago, which reflects increased spending on energy imports.

The data showed that exports and imports of non-oil goods recorded a better performance, as the trade surplus in this sector increased from 9.560 billion euros.
