Trump nominates Infantino for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations

US President Donald Trump wants FIFA President Gianni Infantino to serve as the next Secretary-General of the United Nations, according to what an informed White House source told the New York Post.
The source said in statements to the newspaper that Trump views Infantino as a figure who is respected by everyone and can unite the ranks of the world, as Portuguese António Guterres is set to step down from his position next December.
Infantino, a Swiss lawyer, had previously announced his intention to run for a third term as FIFA president, and has not yet commented on Trump’s proposal, which requires him to obtain approval from the United Nations Security Council, then the General Assembly.
However, for this unlikely scenario to come true, Infantino will also have to overcome a number of prominent competitors, such as former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, and the Argentine Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi.
