A woman and her child died after their vehicle collided with a parked truck in Fujairah

A 28-year-old woman and her one-year-old daughter died, and her husband was seriously injured, along with their second three-year-old daughter, after their vehicle collided with a parked truck, in the Foz Petroleum Zone on Fujairah-Khorfakkan Road, today, around 12 noon.

The Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at the Fujairah Police, Brigadier General Saleh Muhammad Abdullah Al-Dhanhani, explained to Emirates Al-Youm that: “The accident occurred as a result of the vehicle carrying the father, mother, and their two daughters colliding with a parked truck, which resulted in the death of the mother and her youngest daughter, and the father being seriously injured, in addition to the injury of the second child.”

Al-Dhanhani added: “Police and ambulance teams moved to the site of the accident immediately after receiving the report, and the injured were transferred to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Fujairah to receive the necessary medical care, while the competent authorities began their procedures to determine the circumstances of the accident and its causes.”

Al Dhanhani stressed the need for drivers to exercise the highest levels of caution and attention while driving, and to monitor the road continuously, especially in light of the movement of trucks on the various roads of the emirate, and some of them sometimes stop for long periods on the sides of the roads or in locations close to vehicle paths, which requires doubled focus and anticipating potential risks and dealing with them in a timely manner.

He also called on drivers to adhere to the specified speeds, slow down when approaching trucks and parked vehicles, and leave a sufficient safety distance to allow them to safely stop or change the vehicle’s path when any sudden obstacle appears, while ensuring that the lane is clear before overtaking, and not moving suddenly between lanes.

Al-Dhanhani stressed the danger of being busy with a mobile phone or anything else that distracts the driver’s attention from the road, stressing that a few moments of lack of concentration may reduce response time and lead to serious accidents, especially on roads that witness intense movement of trucks and heavy vehicles.

He pointed out the importance of adhering to directional and warning signs, taking into account road conditions and traffic density, and not being satisfied with the legal speed if the road condition requires a lower speed, stressing that defensive driving, constant attention and leaving a safe distance represent essential elements for protecting road users and reducing accidents and the resulting human losses.
