The European Commission disburses 1.5 billion euros to Egypt as part of a comprehensive economic support program
BRUSSELS, 24 JULY / WAM / The European Commission announced today the disbursement of a financial tranche worth 1.5 billion euros to Egypt within the Total Financial Assistance (MFA) programme, as part of the total package of 4 billion euros allocated to support the Egyptian economy.
This is the second of three installments scheduled within the program, and aims to help Cairo meet its financing needs and maintain overall economic stability, in addition to supporting the implementation of the ongoing economic reforms program in parallel with the International Monetary Fund program.
The Commission confirmed that Egypt has met the necessary conditions to obtain this tranche, including implementing economic policies agreed upon with the European Union, and taking concrete steps towards strengthening democratic mechanisms, the rule of law, and respect for human rights, in addition to maintaining the course of the International Monetary Fund program.
This financing comes within the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the European Union and Egypt, which was launched in March 2024, which includes a total financial support package amounting to 5 billion euros, which also includes short-term financing worth one billion euros, disbursed at the end of 2024, while the first installment of the current program was disbursed in January 2026.
