Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, said: “The Oud Metha and Al Asayel Street development project comes in implementation of the directives of the wise leadership (may God protect them) in completing the Sheikh Rashid Corridor development project, to accommodate the needs of urban development and population growth. It is considered one of the most important infrastructure development projects for the road network, and includes the development of four major intersections, including the implementation of bridges and two tunnels 4,300 meters long, and 14 kilometers long roads. The project serves a number of areas. Service, residential and development services, the most important of which are Zabeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Metha and Umm Hurair, Latifa Hospital, and Al Wasl Club, and it is expected that the population of the areas served by the project will reach more than 420 thousand people in 2030,” indicating that the project contributes to increasing the capacity of Oud Metha Street from 10,400 vehicles per hour in both directions, to 15,600 vehicles per hour in both directions, an increase of up to 50%, and it also contributes to reducing flight time from 20 minutes to 5 minutes, an improvement of 75%.

In the first quarter of this year, the authority opened two bridges, the first at the intersection of Oud Metha Street with Al Asayel Street and Al Wasl Club. It consists of two lanes, with a capacity estimated at about 2,400 vehicles per hour, and serves traffic coming from Al Asayel Street towards Al Wasl Club Street, which contributes to the flow of traffic and reducing travel time in the area. The second bridge is located at the intersection of Al Wasel Club Street with Al Khail Street, and serves traffic coming from Al Asayel Street to Al Wasl Club Street. The first bridge consists of two lanes, with a capacity of 2,400 vehicles per hour, and serves traffic coming from Al Asayel Street towards Al Wasl Club Street, while the second bridge consists of three lanes with a capacity of 3,600 vehicles per hour, and serves traffic coming from Al Khail Street towards Al Wasl Club Street.
