Annual inflation in Belgium rose to 3.56% in July, above expectations

BRUSSELS, July 30 / WAM / The annual inflation rate in Belgium rose to 3.56% during the month of July, compared to 3.4% in June, according to data issued by the Belgian Statistical Office, “Statbel”, exceeding the expectations of the Federal Planning Office, which expected it to reach 3.37%.

This rise came after a wave of fluctuations witnessed in recent months, as inflation jumped in April to 4.01%, driven by a rise in energy prices against the backdrop of the war in the Middle East, before stabilizing at 4.08% in May and falling to 3.4% in June.

The report explained that the transportation, entertainment and culture sectors, in addition to utility services such as energy and water, were the most prominent factors that contributed to the acceleration of inflation during July.

The core inflation rate, which excludes volatile energy and food prices, rose to 3.13% from 3.04% in June.
