New American restrictions on “Chinese chips”… and Beijing threatens
The United States announced Monday the imposition of new export restrictions aimed at limiting China’s ability to manufacture advanced electronic chips used in fields such as weapons and, while competition intensifies between the two largest economic powers in the world.
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced, “The United States has taken important measures to prevent our technology from being used by our adversaries in a way that threatens our national security.”
He pointed out that Washington will continue to do so, and the Department of Commerce will control exports of these technologies if it deems that this threatens American national security.
New controls were put in place for the export of 24 types of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, in addition to three types of software tools for developing or producing these electronic chips.

Microchip exports
Also, an additional 140 Chinese companies were affected by the export restrictions, considering that they were acting “at Beijing’s request to advance China’s goals in the field of chips, which poses a threat to the national security of the United States and its allies,” according to the Department of Commerce.
In turn, China on Monday denounced the new restrictions that America announced to impose on electronic chip exports to Beijing, pledging to defend its “interests.”
A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said, “The United States says the same thing and the opposite… It exploits export control measures and applies unilateral bullying behavior. China strongly opposes this.”
