The United States condemns the violence against protesters in Georgia and hints at more sanctions

The United States expressed its strong condemnation of what it described as “brutal and unjustified violence.” Which is practiced by the Georgian Dream Party against citizens, demonstrators, members of the media, and political opponents.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken affirmed, in a statement published by the US State Department, today, Thursday – Washington’s firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the democratic and Atlantic aspirations of its people, noting The United States has worked for more than three decades with successive Georgian governments to support the economy, improve education, enhance defense capabilities, and develop the health and agricultural sectors in Georgia.
Washington called on the Georgian Dream Party to stop its “oppressive methods,” including arbitrary detention and physical violence, and immediately release detainees who exercised their right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.
Blinken stressed, according to the statement, the need to hold accountable those responsible for the illegal use of force, especially after reports of serious injuries among demonstrators.
The United States confirmed The United States stands ready to use available tools, including further sanctions, to confront those who undermine democratic processes or institutions in Georgia. This comes as part of a comprehensive review of bilateral relations that Washington had previously announced.
Blinken concluded the statement by affirming the United States’ solidarity with the Georgian people and supporting them in their path towards democracy.
