"Sharjah Book" Meets publishing leaders in Mexico and Spain in "Guadalajar International Book Fair"

Guadalajara – Mexico, December 5 / WAM / The Sharjah Book Authority is participating in the 38th session of the Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico, which started from November 30 and runs until December 8.

The Authority’s delegation, headed by His Excellency Ahmed bin Rakad Al Ameri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority, met with Ms. Marisol Schultz, Director of the Guadalajara International Book Fair, and discussed with her ways to enhance cultural cooperation between Sharjah and Mexico and exchange experiences in the field of the publishing and distribution industry, in addition to discussing mechanisms for developing relations with the Sharjah Fair. The International Book Organization contributes to enhancing the spread of Arab culture in new markets and achieving more joint achievements in the field of disseminating culture and knowledge.

The delegation met with Jose Manuel, Executive Director of the Spanish Publishers Association in Madrid, to discuss ways to enhance cultural cooperation between Sharjah and Madrid and discuss signing an agreement of understanding covering the fields of culture, books and knowledge, in a way that enhances the exchange of experiences and joint projects in the fields of publishing and translation and strengthening relations with major cultural institutions.

In the context of the Sharjah Publishing Sustainability Fund “Publish” initiative launched by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Book Authority; To support the translation and publishing movement, the Authority provided the graduates of the first batch of participants in the intensive training program for the “Launch” track with the opportunity to attend the activities of the Guadalajara International Book Fair, which gave them the opportunity to view the most prominent Latin literary works and explore the possibilities of translating them into the Arabic language in order to enhance cultural dialogue between the Arab worlds. And Latin.

His Excellency Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri said that the Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico is one of the most important cultural stations to enhance the Arab and Emirati cultural presence in Latin America and among Spanish speakers, especially as it comes after the success achieved by Sharjah as a guest of honor in this prestigious exhibition in its 36th session in 2022. This reflects the Authority’s commitment to promoting cultural exchange and building bridges of understanding between different cultures, and is in line with the Sharjah Civilizational Project launched by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who stresses the importance of the book and the role of culture in enhancing communication and building bridges of understanding and dialogue between civilizations.

He added that the exhibition provided a valuable opportunity for writers, publishers and knowledge makers to communicate with their counterparts from around the world, which created a global environment to enhance cultural dialogue and exchange of ideas, and contributed to consolidating acquaintance with the most prominent figures of Latin and Spanish literature who enriched human culture with their creativity, which opened new horizons for Emirati intellectuals and writers. To interact and benefit from these rich experiences.

For his part, Mansour Al-Hassani, Director of the Publishers Services Department at the Sharjah Book Authority, said that the Guadalajara International Book Fair, which was established in 1987, has today become the largest global market for publishing in the Spanish language, and that the Authority is keen, from this standpoint, to participate in it, explaining that the Authority will continue in the year’s session. Al-Jari aims to introduce Emirati and Arab culture and its creative symbols of writers, authors and artists, pointing out that several meetings have been held with publishers to discuss ways of participating in conferences, initiatives and exhibitions. Organized by Sharjah, led by the Sharjah International Book Fair.

During its participation in the exhibition, the Sharjah Book Authority delegation met with a number of Mexican and Latin American publishers, where it gave a comprehensive presentation about the Sharjah International Book Fair and the exceptional opportunities it offers to enhance the publishing industry and cultural communication.

The delegation also reviewed the cultural events organized by the Authority throughout the year, such as the “Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival,” and highlighted specialized international conferences such as the Publishers and Distributors Conferences, the “Sharjah Animation Conference,” and the “Library Conference,” which constitute vital platforms for exchanging experiences and enhancing cooperation in the sector. Publishing.

During its participation in Mexico, the Authority presented a comprehensive presentation about the Sharjah Awards that it offers to support creativity in various fields, the most prominent of which is the Sharjah Translation Award “Tarjuman”, which honors works translated from Arabic into other languages ​​and reflects the radiances of Arab and Islamic civilization in the intellectual, cultural and creative fields.

Publishers were also introduced to the services of the Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone, which provides an ideal environment to develop their work.
