Shamma Muhammad Thought Council discusses the impact of the digital revolution on humans

Al Ain, February 6, WAM / The Shamma Mohammed Council for Thought and Knowledge yesterday organized an intellectual dialogue session in the presence of Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural and Educational Institutions, at the Council’s headquarters in the city of Al Ain.
The session discussed the book “Digital Man and the Next Civilization” by the French writer and economic thinker Daniel Cohen, translated by Dr. Ali Youssef Asaad, which highlights the impact of the digital revolution on humans and society, and raises profound questions about how technology reshapes human life, identity, and the values of contemporary civilization.
The book addresses digital transformation as a comprehensive cultural transformation that reformulates social values, affects human relations, work, and politics, leading to the formation of human consciousness itself in an era governed by algorithms.
Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan confirmed, during the session, that the book is a mirror that reflects the reality of modern man, who has lost many of his human relationships in the crowd of algorithms, and is now living beyond his psychological capabilities in a virtual world that threatens the deepest human bonds.
She explained how social media and digital applications have affected social relations, the work environment, and political platforms, stressing that digitalization is no longer just a tool, but rather a cultural transformation that reshapes the model of human existence.
She stressed that the book represents an intellectual and contemplative reading at a moment in which the power of technology is accelerating, noting that it does not offer ready-made solutions, but rather opens minds to a deeper understanding of man’s relationship with technology, and the possible paths for the future of civilization, pointing out that the book is not hostile to technology, but rather calls for family awareness of it, stressing the importance of artificial intelligence if it is well understood and dealt with with intelligence that matches the depth of the digital transformation that has affected humans, the family, and society.
During the session, the themes of the book were linked to a brainstorming about the “Year of the Family 2026”, and the role of the Emirati family was discussed as the beating heart and shield in confronting the drought of digital civilization. The discussion addressed the most prominent issues facing the Emirati family and their needs to keep pace with the transformations of the future.
The session concluded with contributions on enhancing awareness and launching community initiatives in light of the “digital human.” The attendees agreed that the real challenge lies in the impact of technology on human relations in favor of data and speed, unless moral values within the family and society are reconsidered, with emphasis on the pivotal role of the mother, educational institutions, and the integration of the efforts of community bodies and the media.
