French President Emmanuel Macron accused the opposition of harming the republic a day after the fall of the center-right government.
The president noted that the far right and the far left had united in what he described as an “anti-republican front” and stressed, “I will not bear responsibility for the irresponsible behavior of other people,” the Associated Press (AP) reported.

Fall of the French government

Macron struggled a day after a historic vote of no confidence in the National Assembly left France without an effective government.
He blamed his far-left opponents for bringing down Michel Barnier’s government.

“The forces that ruled France yesterday decided to help them,” Macron said, referring to the Socialist Party that ran the previous government, and whose deputies sided against the government in the no-confidence vote.
He added that he has always acknowledged his responsibility, while some now want to blame him for this situation.
