The launch of the National Emergency Response Forum in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, 5th April, 2017 (WAM) – Today, the National Emergency Response Forum (Estijaba), organized by the Emirates National Preparedness and Response Program (Jahiya), was launched in the capital, Abu Dhabi, as part of a strategic plan that aims to train 20,000 first-line health and non-health workers in health, ambulance, and security facilities and vital sectors concerned with responding to major incidents and emergencies, according to a unified, integrated and approved curriculum.
The forum will continue for a week, moving between the emirates of the country, with Ajman hosting the events on Tuesday, followed by Fujairah on Wednesday, with the activities concluding on Sunday in Dubai, in a way that enhances institutional integration, unifies national concepts, and improves the efficiency of the emergency and crisis response system in accordance with best international practices and standards.
The organization of the forum comes within the ongoing national efforts to build an integrated proactive system based on preparedness and effective response, and enhances the state’s ability to deal with various types of risks and crises with high efficiency and professionalism.
The program is based on an integrated training framework that combines theoretical and applied aspects, and includes training programs, simulation exercises, and multi-party response scenarios, according to a unified and internationally approved national curriculum developed in partnership with leading international institutions, and with a budget exceeding 100 million dirhams annually to ensure the sustainability of training and qualify certified trainers to train the first line of defense, according to an integrated curriculum approved by more than ten of the most prominent American and European universities and international training centers.
The forum included dialogue sessions, specialized presentations, and workshops that reviewed national and international experiences, and shed light on current and future trends in the field of preparedness and response to emergencies and crises, in a way that enhances the efficiency of first-line defense personnel, supports operational operations during emergencies, and enhances the integration of roles within a unified and comprehensive national system.
Professor Roberto Megavero, President of the European Center for Disaster Medicine, praised the advanced level that the UAE has reached in the field of preparedness and response, stressing that the UAE experience represents a global model in institutional integration, capacity building, and unifying training curricula within a comprehensive, integrated national system.
Dr. Adel Al Shammari, CEO of the Zayed Giving Initiative and the Emirates Preparedness and Response Program “Jaheziya”, and Chairman of the Emirates Doctors Initiative, confirmed that the forum constitutes a strategic environment to enhance cooperation and integration between institutions supporting emergency and crisis operations and local and international training institutions, which contributes to the exchange of knowledge and the use of modern technology, including artificial intelligence, to confront current and future challenges within a unified and internationally accredited training system.
He pointed out that the UAE pays great attention to building the capabilities of national cadres and their continuous qualification to keep pace with rapid developments and enhance its leadership position, stressing that the “Jaheziya” system is inspired by the directives of the wise leadership in enhancing readiness and preparedness and transforming challenges into opportunities that support sustainable development by investing in the human element and developing skills in accordance with the best international standards.
