Shooting near the White House in the presence of Trump… and the Secret Service is investigating the incident

The US Secret Service, which is affiliated with the Department of Homeland Security and is responsible for protecting the president, said in a statement on Sunday that it was investigating “a shooting that occurred last night” near the White House.

The agency said in an online post that there were no reports of injuries, according to the Associated Press on Sunday.

US President Donald Trump was spending the weekend at the White House, but he did not issue any immediate comment on the incident.

The park was fenced off weeks ago for restoration work.

The Secret Service stated that it is working with the District of Columbia Police and the US Park Police to determine the circumstances of the incident.

“Shortly after midnight last night, Secret Service agents responded to reports of a shooting, which occurred near Lafayette Park,” the agency said in a statement published by the agency’s communications chief, Anthony Guglielmi.

Lafayette Park is located across from the White House, in central Washington.

The agency added that no suspects were found following a “thorough search” of the park and the surrounding area.

While things at the White House remain normal, a “tight security situation” has been in place and roads in the area have been cordoned off, while “the Secret Service and police are actively searching for a possible vehicle and a person of interest believed to be connected to the incident.”
