"Historical dictionary of the Arabic language" Decorates the opening ceremony "Arabic Language Month" In Mauritania

Nouakchott, 6 December / WAM / The activities of the “Arabic Language Month”, organized by the “Council of the Arabic Language in Mauritania”, which began in November and continues until the end of this December in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, witnessed a cultural symposium entitled “The Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language… An Achievement of the Age and a Contribution.” Qatar” highlighted the importance of the dictionary as one of the most prominent projects that serve the Arabic language and enhance its status, followed by the showing of a documentary film reviewing the dictionary’s journey and the stages of work on it.
The opening of the “Arabic Language Month” came under the supervision of His Excellency Mr. Hussein Amdou, Minister of Culture, Arts, Communication and Relations with Parliament, spokesman for the Mauritanian government, in the presence of representatives of Arab diplomatic missions and a group of the cultural, scientific, political and media elite in Mauritania.
Participating in the symposium were Professor Khalil Al-Nahwi, Chairman of the Council of the Arabic Language in Mauritania, Professor Dr. Abdel Hamid Madkour, Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Linguistic and Scientific Academies, Professor Abu Bakr Sila, representative of the bodies working for the empowerment of the Arabic language, and Professor Abu Balblah, Director of Lessons at the Higher School of Education, guest of this edition of “Arabic Language Month.”
His Excellency the Mauritanian Minister praised the role of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in developing the work of the Arab academies and the achievement achieved by Sharjah, represented in issuing the “Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language” in 127 volumes, pointing to the care given by His Excellency the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Muhammad. Al-Nahwi thanked the “Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language” team in Mauritania for the levels of editing and review at its various stages, stressing that the call of the “Arab Language Council” to coordinate with linguistic academies received an unprecedented response from the bodies working to empower the Arabic language, which contributed to transforming “International Day.” for the Arabic language” for a week and then for a full month thanks to the combined efforts of the members of the “Arabic Language Coordination Committee.”
In turn, His Excellency Professor Dr. Abdel Hamid Madkour praised the vision and support of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and his pivotal role in completing the “Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language” and achieving this desired dream, praising Mauritania’s contribution to the completion of the dictionary and its historical role in spreading the Arabic language in Africa.
For his part, Professor Abu Bakr Sela said that the completion of the “Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language” constitutes an incentive to return to writing national languages in the Arabic script as they were written in it for centuries.
Professor Abu Balblah reviewed the leadership of the Higher School of Education and the large number of its graduates, professors and inspectors of the Arabic language since its launch in 1970 under the leadership of its first general director, the scholar Dr. Muhammad Al-Mukhtar bin Abu, may God have mercy on him, and their contribution to the completion of the dictionary.
The opening ceremony of the “International Arabic Language Month” included the showing of two documentary films, the first about the “Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language,” the steps for its completion and the stages of work on it, and the second about the process of the “Council of the Arabic Language in Mauritania.” At the conclusion of the ceremony, members of the Mauritanian team who participated in the “Historical Dictionary of the Language” were honored.
