المملكة: Signing 3 strategic agreements for the smart afforestation initiative in the Kingdom

The sixteenth World Climate Conference (COP16) in Riyadh witnessed the signing of the NetZero platform with its partners a number of strategic agreements to support the smart afforestation initiative.
This came under the patronage of the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Abdul Rahman Al-Fadhli, in the presence of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and the Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, A. Adel Al-Jubeir.

Supporting the smart afforestation initiative

This comes in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and the “Green Saudi Arabia” and “Green Middle East” initiatives, which were launched by His Highness the Crown Prince – may God protect him – with the aim of enhancing environmental sustainability, increasing vegetation cover, and combating desertification throughout the Kingdom.
The founding partner of NetZero, Dr. Muhammad Al-Sheikh, explained that the NetZero platform is the first technical environmental platform specialized in environmental and social sustainability solutions in the region, and aims to enhance digitalization in afforestation initiatives, through its innovations and interactive platforms.

Dr. Al-Sheikh pointed out that the agreements signed are a green strategic partner agreement with Nesma & Partners Contracting Company, to plant 200,000 smart trees, with an expected carbon absorption rate of: 22,000 tons within 5 years.
And another agreement with Alinma Bank as a strategic green partner to plant 175,000 smart mangrove trees, with an expected carbon absorption rate of: 21,000 tons within 6 years.

Localization of green jobs

As well as signing with Mabanee General Contractors Company as a partner to localize green jobs by providing 20 diverse leadership, engineering and administrative jobs for Saudi young men and women.
This is to support green jobs and enhance the environmental impact in the Kingdom, and to motivate young people specialized in the environmental field to empower them and develop their skills in order to achieve the goals of the nation’s vision and national initiatives.
He explained that the “Smart Trees” initiative aims to plant more than one million smart trees using innovative digital technologies, making it the first of its kind in the Kingdom, the Gulf and the Middle East.

Promoting environmental sustainability

These technologies contribute to tracking the environmental impact of each tree accurately and transparently, through interactive platforms that allow companies and individuals to measure the environmental benefits of trees, such as improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions.
The Net Zero platform is the first technical environmental platform specialized in environmental and social sustainability solutions in the region, and aims to enhance digitalization in afforestation initiatives, through its innovations and interactive platforms.
NetZero is supported by the Sidra Program of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and has received prestigious awards for its pioneering role in promoting environmental sustainability and supporting the “Green Saudi Arabia” and “Green Middle East” initiatives.
