ABU DHABI, 10 December / WAM / The World Desalination Conference 2024, hosted by the Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi under the slogan: Addressing Water Scarcity, witnessed the presence of sector leaders and global experts, to participate in the Leaders’ Summit held today as part of the conference’s activities.
The third day of the conference included a program dedicated to the leadership level in various sectors, as it represented an exceptional opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss cooperation opportunities aimed at unifying efforts in order to enhance the ability of global water systems to adapt to crises.
In his opening speech, His Excellency Engineer Awaida Murshid Al Marar, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, stressed the importance of cooperation and innovation, saying: “Leadership means speaking from the heart and sticking to what we believe in. The Leaders’ Summit, which was held within the activities of the World Desalination Conference 2024, sponsored by TAQA Water Solutions, discussed the challenges of climate change, water scarcity, and sustainability. The discussion session on “Financing Water Security Initiatives” also discussed innovative financing mechanisms to support sustainable solutions to the water scarcity crisis. . During the conference, a symposium was held on “The Pioneering Role of Companies in Enhancing Water Security,” which presented many different ideas and visions about the challenges facing the industry sector, and highlighted the innovative methodologies followed by companies to confront water challenges worldwide. In a session attended by more than 35 CEOs, the most important solutions and effective initiatives to address water scarcity were discussed, with the participation of Eng. Ahmed Al Shamsi, Managing Director and CEO of TAQA Water Solutions Company, David Scott, Member of the Council of the Mohammed bin Zayed Water Initiative, and Dr. Tariq Nada, Vice President of Water and Technical Services Sector at ACWA Power Saudi Arabia, and Dr. Hyung Hoon, Vice President of LG Chemicals; Mr. José Churlin, CEO of Suez; Mr. Rami Ghandour, CEO of Metito, and Mr. Luis Neves, CEO of the Belgian company GESI. Shannon McCarthy, Secretary General of the World Desalination Congress, said: “The Leaders’ Summit represents an important opportunity to unite the efforts of decision-makers and sector leaders in order to reach sustainable and effective solutions at a time when modern technologies form the basis of future solutions to the problem of water scarcity. It includes the Al Taweelah reverse osmosis desalination plant, Masdar City, an integrated urban community that embodies the UAE’s commitment to addressing the problem of climate change, and the Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Power Plant, one of the largest solar power plants that highlights the UAE’s pioneering role in the field of renewable energy.
